EL CAMPO, TX – Wharton County Electric Cooperative officials have set the date for the 79th Annual Meeting of Members. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the El Campo Civic Center, 2350 N. Mechanic in El Campo. Registration will begin at 6:00 p.m. along with a roast beef dinner. The business meeting will start at 7:00 p.m.
The cooperative's by-laws designate that an annual meeting be held to conduct Cooperative business including officers’ and managers’ reports to the membership and the election of directors to the board. WCEC has a rotating board with 9 members representing the nine districts that make up the WCEC service area. Directors are elected by the membership to serve for one three-year term. Under normal circumstances, three directors are elected each year at the annual meeting. Directors are eligible to serve three consecutive three-year terms for a total of nine years, if re-elected.
This year, directors for Districts 2, 5 & 8 will be elected. In District 2, incumbent and current president, Leroy Kaspar, will face opponent Tommy Drapela. In the District 5 race, William Drapela has challenged incumbent and current assistant secretary/treasurer, A.J. Kresta. In District 8, incumbent Dale Kight is not seeking re-election. On the ballot for District 8 will be Glen Buenger and Jim Harton.
All members of the cooperative are invited and encouraged to attend the Annual Meeting of Members. Each member is an owner in the cooperative, and the meeting provides the best opportunity for everyone to participate in cooperative operations. Also, each membership receives one vote in the board election.
In addition to the business portion of the meeting, a roast beef dinner will be served. Meal tickets will be available for advance purchase only for $5 per meal. As always, door prizes will be given away throughout the evening including specific prizes for the kids in attendance and three grand prizes of free electricity. Each member will also receive a special gift for attending.
Members should look for the June edition of Texas Co-op Power magazine for the meal ticket request and registration card. This card must be used to purchase meal tickets in advance. The deadline for advance meal ticket purchase is Monday, June 19, 2017 by 4:30 p.m. Meal tickets will not be sold at the door.
The meal ticket request form and registration card along with payment can be brought to the WCEC office at 1815 E. Jackson in El Campo or mailed to P.O. Box 31, El Campo, TX 77437.
All members who purchase meal tickets will be pre-registered for the meeting and will only need to check in on the date of the event. The members that are not purchasing meal tickets will need to bring the registration card to the meeting to register.
